Full information and registration form available for download. The 2008 NHLTA Annual Meeting and Conference will be held on Wednesday, May 14th at the North Conway Grand Hotel in North Conway. Located at the rear of Settlers' Green Outlet Village on Route 16, this beautiful hotel and convention center is very user friendly and right in the midst of a shoppers paradise. The Mount Washington Valley has much to offer other than shopping and if you are a distance away, you can reserve a room for the day before or after. Room rates are $69.00/night plus state tax for single or double occupancy and offer 2 queen beds or 1 king bed. Reservations must be made with the hotel by calling 1-800-655-1452 and identify yourself with NHLTA.

10:45 - 11:45  Session 1    "Money, Money, Money"   We are responsible for handling our libraries'  "other money" .  Terry Knowles, Asst. Director of Charitable Trusts is the expert on how to accept and maintain these funds to the best advantage and do it legally.

Session 2    "Personnel Policies"  Jeopardy. Category: Popular Lawsuits. Question: The most
important protection for the board. Answer: What is a good Personnel Policy ?
Elizabeth Ives: NHLTA Board, Trustee Derry Public Library.

Session 3    "Minutes 101"       Minutes are the official record of the proceedings at a meeting. The word minutes is from the latin word minutus meaning small. Learn the basics of preparing your minutes and including the most necessary notations. Emma Smith has been a member of the NHLTA Board since 2001, and past Chair of the Abbott Library Board of Trustees. As the Medical Staff Manager of Valley Regional Hospital, she learned the value and importance of properly recorded minutes.
                      
Session 4    "Library Disaster Planning for Prevention and Coping"     Learn how to plan to prevent disasters from striking your library, and how to plan for coping with disaster in your library when it does happen. Those attending will leave with access to an on line planning tool and the first outline for a brief resource list. Tom Ladd is Education Coordinator for the NH State Library and Liaison to our board. This is part one of a two-part session.

12:15 - 1:15    Session 5   "Library Disaster Planning for Prevention and Coping"  Continued
                                         Part two of a two-part session. Attend both sessions.
                      
Session 6    "Board Officer Responsibilities"     Changing times mean changing duties and new board members mean new thoughts and skills. Sally Jones is chairperson of the board of trustees at Salisbury Free Library and Secretary of NHLTA. Bob Gilbert is a long time trustee at the Mary E. Bartlett Memorial Library in Brentwood as well as many other boards and committees in his town. Together, they will "dissipate"  the fog and confusion. Bring your questions.

Session 7      "Long Range Planning"     Planning is vital to controlled growth and there is a definite process to this.  It takes a great deal of research and time if it is to be done right. Wiggin Memorial Library in Stratham has recently completed this process and is willing to share their experience. Craig Wark is a member of the NHLTA Board and former trustee of Wiggin Memorial Library and Leslie Kimball is Director of Wiggin Memorial Library.

Presenter: Margaret Ives, Human Resources Consultant (35 years experience for libraries, health care, universities and towns.

Session 10    "Library Policy Writing - Why and How"     Tom Ladd has been our guru on policy writing for our libraries since Adam wore knickers. He is definitely the established expert. Information galore!!!!!

Session 11     Repeat of Session 2 - "Personnel Policies"         

Session 12       " Friends of the Library"     Why they are so important, how do they differ from trustees, what can be expected from them.

3:45 - 4:30       Round Table Discussions     This will be your golden opportunity to discuss with others what you have heard throughout the day or perhaps you did not hear something you were hoping for. These will be facilitated by board members and officers. Bring your questions, your thoughts, your comments, whatever. Networking can be a very valuable reference.

The North Conway Grand Hotel is a picturesque, full-service resort located in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley. Their 200 rooms are spacious and newly renovated and there is a restaurant and lounge as well as well appointed banquet facilities.  Mountain views in all directions add to it's charm.  Amenities include an indoor pool, health club equipment, sauna and whirlpool.  Area attractions include golf courses, fishing, hiking, White Mountain National Forest and much more.

DIRECTIONS:  From I-93 take exit 23 onto Route 104 east to Route 3. Turn left into Meredith Village and right at the lights onto Route 25 East. Take this to Route 16 North into Conway Village. Go through 2 sets of lights, turn left at 3rd set of lights and continue North (still on route 16) At the 3rd set of lights after you pass Burger King (on your left) turn right into Settlers' Green OVP Outlet Center.  The Hotel in located at the rear of the Outlet Center.

From the Eastern side of the state follow 16 North from Rochester area to Settlers' Green.

From the North, go South through Crawford Notch on Route 302 and Settlers' Green will be on your left.  About 2 miles South of North Conway Village. it will be the next set of lights after you pass L.L. Bean.
