2nd Annual Festival of Trees

Festival of Trees Image 1The Friends of the James A. Tuttle Library and the Antrim Historical Society collaborated again to host the Second Annual Festival of Trees. The month-long festival was launched on December 2nd with an Evening of Lights Gala fundraiser. The library was deFestival of Trees Image 3corated for the season in a dazzling display of trees and wreaths of all sizes, shapes, themes, and composition including a Button tree, an antique Polish ornament tree, a “Sea”-sonal tree (decorated with sea shells), and a tree decorated with recycled ornaments from the Antrim Recycling Transfer Station swap shop. The winner of the funniest tree was decorated like a scoop of ice cream. Over sixty Antrim residents, businesses, organizations, and churches enthusiastically provided the decorated trees and wreaths. Festival of Trees Image 2

The display, open for the entire holiday season, was truly a community effort and by far an extremely successful method of attracting people to the library! It was estimated that over 500 people visited and viewed the displays.

WINNERS MAKE THE NEWS

During October and November NHLTA President Adele Knight traveled across the state presenting the 2011 Annual Awards. Each occasion was special and at each celebration the respect and support of the library recipients was evident. From the commendation presented by Mayor Gatsas of Manchester to Library Director Denise van Zanten to the gathering of elementary school students in honor of Lynn Christopher, Library Director of Hill Library, it was a heartwarming experience and a privilege to be a participant.

The presentation of the “Special Library Service Contribution” award to the family of Alexander J. Corey, Littleton Public Library, was canceled due to a snow storm and will be scheduled in the Spring.

NHLTA awards Library Director of the Year to two very diverse libraries: Denise van Zanten, Library Director, Manchester City Library (population 109, 565) and Lynn Christopher, Library Director, Hill Library (population 1,103).
